Halloween!

Sunday 2 November 2014

Now that Halloween is over, I wanted to share with you, my costume! I was lazy and went for the easy option, face paint! Putting my artistic ability to the test, this is my attempt at a sugar skull..

A little shopping never hurt nobody

Sunday 26 October 2014

Another week ... another H&M shopping spree.

I originally popped in to H&M to get some nice work wear pieces (I've just landed a new job at Kurt Geiger, so I wanted some classy pieces that weren't too pricey!) but I just couldn't resist buying a few other bits from their newest Winter drop. Full of warm browns and burnt oranges, H&M have got the cosy Autumn vibe down to a tee.

I absolutely fell in love with this midnight blue faux fur gillet, perfect with over the knee boots and a floppy hat for a full on 70's look.

Then I also snapped up this pretty brown zipped skort and flowery dress - bargains at just £7.99 and £12.99!

For a party on Friday I styled the wrap around skirt with a flower print t shirt from Fashion Union and some wintery black tights (and a pout of course). But I think it'll work equally well with a chunky knit jumper and ankle boots for Christmas shopping on those frosty December days! Let me know how you'd style it!

SAVAGE BEAUTY

Thursday 23 October 2014

Last year I came across the book ‘Savage Beauty’, whilst on art foundation. It is a book solely focused on celebrating the most amazing pieces made by Alexander McQueen throughout his career. I fell in love with the outrageous designs and complex structures, each piece an artwork in their own right.

So imagine my happiness when I found out that the Savage Beauty exhibition was coming to LONDON! (I am very happy if you never caught on..) It will exhibit the most brilliant and extravagant designs spanning McQueen’s entire career, even up to his unfinished collection of AW10!

The exhibit will showcase from the 14th March – 19th July 2015 in The Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The tickets are about £17.50, with price changes for students, Senior citizens e.t.c.

I will definitely be purchasing my tickets ASAP for this once in a lifetime experience, I suggest you do too!

H&M x Alexander Wang

Tuesday 21 October 2014

I'm not gonna lie, I had high hopes for the Alexander Wang Collection with H&M but I have to say Iam disappointed with some of the pieces that he has brought out. I get that Wang's signature style is clean cut and a little sport luxe but I feel that the collection he has brought out is deffo more sporty than anything luxe, it's just not my cup of tea!

Okay...with being a lover of all clothes and all styles, there are some pieces that I do like i.e. the big oversized jumper with WANG embossed on it in the grey jersey, which I think is slighlty fabulous and may look into buying!

I also really like the oversized jacket in the neoprene material, it would be perfect with black ripped skinnies, a grey marl t-shirt and some casual trainers but it does have a pretty large price tag (£179.99) on it so I'd personally rather put the money towards something else. Saying that though, you are getting a designer name at a not so designer price, which is a fabulous idea we need more of!

As much as I'm not a fan of the collection overall, I do love how it was presented as all the models walked down the 'running track' runway with sporty head gear.
Not quite sure when the collection hits the shops but have a gander and let me know what you think of the collection, or what you think you will wear. It will be interesting to see what sells in the collection especially the leather pants for £179.99!!

Lots of love,

Surprise Surprise - More Shopping

Saturday 18 October 2014

For anyone who lives in Bristol. BS8 is one of the most well known and loved vintage shops; and as I mentioned in my post earlier in the week, I got to pop in on Thursday night for a Student Lock In. Drinks, a DJ and 20% discount off all clothes - what more could a girl ask for!?

After my splurge at Cabot Circus on Monday I promised myself that I wasn't going to spend any more money, but I just couldn't resist this gingham and tartan patterned scarf. A dead ringer for a scarf that I had my eye on in Zara and a snip at just £11.99!

I also took some cheeky pics of my favourite pieces from in store. Enjoy - and next time you're in Bristol make sure you pop in!

Student Sessions

Wednesday 15 October 2014

As part of my job as Deputy Style Editor at Epigram Newspaper (The University of Bristol's student newspaper) I get to go to lots of fun fashiony events with my lovely style team girls.

This Monday we headed off to a student event at Cabot Circus, where we were greeted by DJ's, freebies, 40% off our food and 20% off all clothes ... not too shabby for a poor student!

With our priorities firmly in place, we headed straight to Gourmet Burger Kitchen for hugggge portions of burger and chips. Definitely head to GBK if you're in Bristol as they constantly have massive student discounts and the food is amazing, well worth the calories! (You can always burn them off later when you're shopping!)

After promising myself that I was only going to have a nose around and under no circumstances was I to buy any clothes, I emerged 3 hours later bleary eyed and excited with two dresses, a coat, a pair of trainers and a jumper (oops). But all of this only came to the £100.00 ish mark, which I'm trying to tell myself is actually a bargain. You may recognise the red lacy H&M dress from a post that I did last week ... with 20% off it was just too good to resist.

All of my items are perfect for the start of the wintery / Christmas season, ideal for chilly November days and sparkly December nights!

I'll be heading to another student lock in this Thursday at one of Bristol's best known vintage shops, BS8, so check back in later in the week and I might just have a few new purchases under my belt!

Love,

Emma xo

The Holy Grail of Brushes!

Tuesday 14 October 2014

I think Emma and Erin are having some serious shopping withdrawals recently, I'm no exception. Seeing a healthy balance in your account is so tempting to spend until you have to remind yourself that, that money is ALL for your rent, boo.
Spare time for me in Manchester is time to have a good nosey round the shops, don't worry, I've exercised some self control though and managed not to buy anything but I did see something that is deffo going on the Christmas list (hint hint mum if you're reading!)

I've been a major fan of the Real Technique make-up brushes for a while now and I've seen a set in Superdrug that I just need to get my hands on! It's a Christmas gift set that has all the brushes I'm currently lacking in my collection and I couldn't go on enough at how much I really like these brushes. I found out about them through my obsession with watching make-up tutorials on YouTube, watching the likes of Pixiwoo and Tanya Burr ( if you haven't checked them out yet I highly recommend it). It's actually Sam and Nic from Pixiwoo who launched the brushes so when I realised, I looked into the brushes praying they wouldn't cost a small fortune like Mac and Bobbi Brown brushes do. To my surprise the brushes were very reasonably priced, I think the goldy colour brushes (that came as a set) came to roughly £20. Happy days!
And what is even better than the price is the brushes themselves, they make my make-up look 100 times better and they don't swallow all the product like most do. My two favourite brushes are the powder brush, which I use for putting on bronzer and the buffing brush which works any foundation into the skin so perfectly! I love these brushes so much I converted some of my friends to them too!
You can see the brushes in action as well on Pixiwoos YouTube channel as well so if you're looking for some brushes and not sure if these are for you definitely check out there channel!

In order left to right:
Stippling brush/ Powder Brush / Buffing Brush/ Contour Brush/ Foundation Brush/ Detailer brush
The set in Superdrug!

Lots of love,

I want to buy this bag.

Monday 13 October 2014

Mondays are depressing. Its fact. So I want to share with you the next item on my shopping list. To cheer myself up and hopefully, you.
£25 - River Island

I have been having issues with bag sizes at the moment and this bag is the perfect balance between the Clutch and the Bucket. Considering I am reading the 2nd Game of Thrones at the moment, my smaller bags aren’t accommodating. At all. I can’t wait to buy this as soon as payday comes around! Let the countdown begin.

I also thought you may enjoy this quote I found on a t shirt in River Island.

'Nothing haunts us like the things we didn't buy' - Vogue

Keep that in mind next time you’re shopping. It’s going to become my new mantra to live by.

Imaginary Shopping

As a student, having enough pennies left in the over draft to regularly buy new clothes is basically impossible. So when I'm having a particularly bad shopping craving - I swear if I'm ever pregnant I'll crave clothes over food - I satisfy my appetite by doing a bit of imaginary shopping. Basically going in to loads of shops, trying on everything in there, and then running away before the naughty little voice of my credit card pipes up.

Wearing my Armani Mac, Marks and Spensers Jeans, Primark Shirt and Shoes for my spontaneous shopping trip. No, I've not suddenly become a millionaire (although a girl can dream). My coat was an outlet bargain that I picked up on my trip to America. Worth the jet lag!

My two favourite pieces from my latest expedition where this gorgeous red lace dress from H&M and this unusual printed number from Primark. Both would be perfect for the oncoming party season and could easily be teamed with tights and a leather jacket for a day look. Please go out and buy them - before I do!

Bargain Beauty Buys!

Friday 10 October 2014

After seeing Emma’s post on her new makeup I decided it was time for me to do the same, but maybe not on the same level.. my student loan doesn’t cover MAC or Benefit!
Here are my bargain beauty buys!
Superdrug’s own ‘Superberry Exfoliating Face Mask'.

An absolutely amazing wake up for your skin at only £2.59. The berry seeds exfoliate the skin on application, and then when left for 10 – 15 minutes, wash off leaving smooth and refreshed skin. A must have for the winter chill!

Primark’s P.S. Love Nail Polish.

By some miracle, my nails have actually grown and not snapped! So today I wanted to find a set of nail polishes fit for the Autumn and Winter colours. I find that at this time of year, I'm drawn to nude and metallic colours with a bit of sparkle so this set is perfect. Also only £2!
Primark’s P.S Love Gel Effect Top Coat.

To keep the length I thought a top coat would help. The gel effect top coat is only £1 and is exactly what I want, and works as promised!
Primark’s P.S Love Double Ended Eyeshadow Brush.

I use ‘Real Technique’ brushes for my makeup application and really wanted one for applying eyeshadow perfectly. However.. paying over £5 for a brush right now is not something I really think I can justify (it’s on the Christmas list) so I need an alternative for the moment. £1 in Primark for a soft double sided eyeshadow brush both for shading and blending, hopefully will last me a little while.
Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder.

I smashed my powder. Yes, the same nightmare we all go through. I have used this powder for years and it's the perfect finish to your makeup. I use 'Transparent' so it doesn’t affect my contouring, just holds it in place. And it’s only £3.99!
Sleek Face Form Contouring and Blush Palette.

Lauren is the makeup guru. And when she recommends something, take note! I have wanted a contouring set for a while now, but couldn’t find one with both the bronzer and the highlighter as a set. After complaining to her, she told me about the one she uses from Sleek. A double set that complement each other perfectly. Today in Superdrug I found it, but just my luck there were none in my shade. It may have been fate or me trying to justify myself but there was another option. A sleek contouring set, and blusher set as well for only £9.99. After some panic texting to Lauren, she convinced me it was a bargain, so I bought it! I’ll pop up a picture soon to let you know how it works!
Finally a makeup bag to pop it all in for only £4! Primark of course..

Designer Kellogs...What!?

Thursday 9 October 2014

Some of you may already be aware of the new bizarre collaboration but for those of you that dont, Anya Hindmarch has collaborated with Kellogs...yes Kellogs!
Anya Hindmarch known for doing quirky luxury handbags has designed  handbags and cereal boxes inspired by our much loved breakfast brand. Yes, im struggling to get my head round it too, dont worry!
The designs show the much loved Tony the Tiger and the signature Kellogs Cockrel in a new light. My favourite has to be the Tony the Tiger handbag!

The designer also designed luxury cereal boxes for kellogs that are going to be sold in Harvey Nichols, how fancy is that, don't even want to think of what price tag could be attached to a designer cereal box.
The cereal boxes have also been playfully called 'Fashion Flakes’ and ‘Handbags at Dawn Flakes’. And apparently the London Fashion week goers where also given a box to munch on as they made their way to the shows!

Is it bad that I really want a box?

Woman Crush Wednesday

Wednesday 8 October 2014

After Erin did a post about the child prodigy that is Kendall Jenner, I felt that a bit of time needed to be dedicated to the original queen of the Kardashian clan, Kimmy K. Although Kim has undoubtedly made some questionable fashion choices in her time (perma tan, tacky extensions, lots of leopard print) she's definitely undergone a style transformation in recent years (thank you Mr West). And during Paris Fashion Week, she looked particularly hot and classy, a hard combination to balance!

So for my Woman Crush Wednesday, I've found my favourite Kim K looks. Spoiler - there's a lot of body con and colour blocking.

Love,

Emma xo
