Remind me why we're home again?

Thursday, 4 September 2014

After an amazing week in Majorca, the three of us are well and truly suffering from post holiday blues. Sunsets, cocktails, nights out, beautiful food.... oh the food was just perfect! Sorry just drooling over memories! After being let loose on duty free, we have come up with a few INSANE purchases (more to follow soon!)

Over the next few weeks we are parting ways, moving into Uni and becoming grown ups.. apparently. We will be letting you in on our Fresher outfit choices, cooking attempts and every other types of discovery we make on the way!

Hola Chikas...

Tuesday, 26 August 2014

You may have noticed that the blog has become a bit obsessed with one thing and one thing only over the last couple of days ... our holiday!!

The three of us are heading off for a week in Sunny Spain so the blog will be a bit quiet (we've managed to book our 'chilled' girlie holiday right outside of Magaluf so taking a laptop is a no go!)

But you lucky lot can keep up with all of our holiday shenanigans and of course get lots of outfit updates by following us on Tumblr and Instagram:

Hoping you all enjoy your last few days of August (kind of summer, right?) and we shall be back in September with lots of holiday diary posts and booze induced tales to tell!

Love Always,

A little bit of glitter

As I said before, I love my beauty salon. Doing everything last minute as per usual, I asked today if they had any room for tonight and they have squeezed me in (a perk of being a regular) to get OPI Gel nails done. I just couldn't face going on holiday and having to paint my nails, I mean, far too much effort. My nails are broken and short and because of the whole 'art student thing', I will find it far too difficult to have acrylics on next week when I go to Uni. Have you ever tried to draw with false nails?? It's a challenge I am not willing to try in my first week anyway!

OPI Gel stays on for about 2-3 weeks and allows your nails to grow whilst its on. I have gone for a gold glitter gel to add a bit of sparkle to a plain outfit on holiday! Also I think it will look fabulous with a tan!!

Lets talk about waxing..

Okay.. so waxing. Sensitive subject, literally. But, necessary none the less! I have been getting my eyebrows waxed for 5 years now, since I was 14. It began because I didn’t want to mess my face up by accidently plucking too much, shaving them off, bleaching them or thinking thin eyebrows were a good idea… Thankfully this was around the time that thick brows became a fashion, and to my extreme relief have stayed a fashionable choice (thank you Cara Delevingne!) I find that waxing your eyebrows creates a lovely border that shapes your features perfectly. Especially with thick, dark brows, having a clear definition just enhances your eyes to the fullest!

Told you my eyebrows were massive!
This is no make up and 2 hours after a wax.
I have only ever gone to one place to get my eyebrows done and have sworn to continue to do this until I am 90. My advice is to find a beauty salon with a good reputation and an obvious understanding of beauty and care. For example, the women at my salon know I can’t have the top of my eyebrows waxed because my skin is too sensitive and rips (it was not a good look for me when we found this out).  My eyebrow wax lasts about 3-4 weeks and in the end of the 4th week, the hairs start to show again.

So, as you may have noticed from the past few blog and Instagram posts, me, Emma and Lauren are all off on holiday! You may have guessed where this post is going now… yes, the dreaded BIKINI WAX. Dun Dun Duuuuuunnnnn! It was a last minute decision and considering I have never had a bikini wax before, the thought of getting my privates out for someone to rip the hair off was well… off putting to say the least. But the constant maintenance whilst away and the continuing worry that you aren’t looking too fine down there, was something I couldn’t be arsed with this year!
So my appointment was today. I admit, I was totally nervous, but it literally took 20 minutes. Things to remember:
-It’s their job, they really aren’t bothered about seeing you half naked!
- It hurts, but your body gets used to the pain, and think how much easier your holiday grooming will be!
-Make sure you trust the person and that they are using hot wax, not strips – no bruising and less pain!!
-Apparently it hurts less the more you do it.. i'll keep you posted on that one!

Nail advice from a nail biter

Monday, 25 August 2014

As someone who has been a life time nail biter (more germs than a toilet seat, I know) I'm forever searching for ways to improve my teeny tiny nails. In the past I've always been a fan of Shellac, but with a holiday on the horizon I decided to splash a bit more cash and get a full set of acrylics. At £24 for Sculpture Acrylics and a polish, it was actually more reasonable that I expected. To keep my nails looking salon worthy, I've been on the hunt for some new nail varnishes, and found that, to my surprise, a hefty price tag doesn't always mean you're getting the best product.

I'd previously used Essie Base Coat and Nail Strengthener, which did give my nails a lovely gel - like finish. But as a bit of a lazy girl when it comes to anything beauty related, I do find having acrylics a major time saver compared to having to do about twenty layers yourself! But if you're lucky enough to have naturally long, strong nails, then I'd definitely recommend the Essie products (but they are quite pricey so maybe invest in the base and top coats and use a cheaper polish for your colour).

Since having my acrylics, I've tried Nails Inc, O.P.I and Rimmel. Luckily I got my Nails Inc set at TK Maxx so they were an absolute bargain, as were my OPI pairing which I snapped up in an airport. And I must admit that I am obsessed with a scarlett, plummy nail so I do have a soft spot for the rich OPI colour. However my absolute favourite purchases have been courtesy of Rimmel. The liquid is smooth but not too runny, and the brush is lovely and wide which means it glides easily over your  nails. And at less than a fiver each, you can stock up on plenty of colours. I've gone for the 'Summer Orange' for my holiday look and I always go for the Kate Shade 703 for that glam night out vibe!

And my final tip (given to me by the beautician so you know it's going to be good) is to use Acetone free Nail Varnish Remover. This bottle from Super Drug smells lovely and contains Aloe Vera (a saviour when it comes to skin care) and was around the £1.40 mark - thank me later!

Love always,

Emma

Sunny Sundays and long walks!

Sunday, 24 August 2014

I spent my bank holiday Sunday in the Lake District walking in the sunshine (I know, sunshine?! who'd of thought). I got some lovely photos walking round Lake Windemere and ofc we ended the day in a pub with a nice cold glass of cider! I was going to take an outfit photo to share but I literally stepped out the car and got pooped on by a bird, its great being with nature...not!!I knew id be walking for most of the day so went for comfort and threw on my Topshop jeans and soft grey t-shirt from Primark with a floral scarf to jazz it up a bit. Im just gonna have to leave you imagining this outfit (hopefully minus the bird poo).

Afternoon tea delight!

Saturday, 23 August 2014

This afternoon me and my mum went for a late lunch in The Edge in Ormskirk for some afternoon tea! The food was as yummy as it looks so if you're in Ormskirk (outside of Liverpool) definitely go. I had chicken club sandwich and my mum had afternoon tea which also came with a little mug of soup. It's definitely my favourite place in Ormskirk!

lots of cakey love,
